e-gold and GoldMoney are electronic currencies backed up by gold which makes it possible to use gold as money. Specifically, the gold currency payment system enables people to spend specified weights of gold to other gold currency accounts or to receive weights of gold.  Only the ownership changes - the gold in the treasury grade vault stays put. The reference exchange rate for gold of major national currencies is computed every 15 minutes by the payment providers. This exchange rate is used for the USD prices of our products.

In order to use the system, you need to open an account with e-gold or open an account with GoldMoney (also called a holding) first. This can be done quickly and is free of charge. Then you have to fund your account via one of the many exchange market makers who exchange national currency for gold currency. You may have a reference for e-gold or GoldMoney depending on the actual costs to purchase gold. There is a large variety of these exchanges, buying or selling gold for virtually any currency and payment gateway. You find the offers of these exchanges posted on the e-gold site or other directory services on the internet. Once your account is funded, you can use it to pay or get paid online and instantly. In case of a refund situation we would charge back the received weights of gold back to your e-gold holding.
